All About Neck Pain

Neck pain can be caused by a lot of different things, it can hurt to various degrees, it can affect your life in many ways, and it can have many different prognoses. This article will act as a brief guide to neck pain so you have a better idea of what can cause problems for you, how it can affect you, and what you can do about it.

Common causes of neck pains

One of the common causes of neck pain is an injury to the neck. Slip and fall accidents, car accidents, tripping and lunging forward, or hitting your head while playing sports or doing something else are some of the ways you can end up injuring your neck. Anything that causes your head to move with force or that moves your neck in a way it shouldn't move can injure it.

Neck injuries can be temporary or they can be chronic. They can also be minor, or they can be major. You can end up with a pulled muscle, inflammation, a pinched nerve, a break, a slipped disc, or any number of other types of injuries.

Neck injuries and pains can be treated in a number of ways

The way your neck pains or injury is treated will depend on the type of injury that you have, the severity of the injury, and any other factors that come into play, such as other medical conditions or medications that you take. Some different ways neck pains and/or injuries can be treated include wearing a neck brace to restrict mobility, using ice, using heat, seeing a chiropractor, going to physical therapy, taking medications, etc. In some cases, more invasive treatments may need to be done, and these can include anything from injections to surgery.

Neck injuries can lead to other problems

If you have injured your neck or you feel pain that doesn't seem to go away or that is intense, you need to go in and see what is causing the pain. There are a lot of different ways that a neck injury can affect you on top of the neck pain you feel. You can experience headaches, weakness or numbness in your limbs, pain that spreads to other areas such as your shoulders or down your back, and more.

Conclusion

As soon as you feel something is wrong with your neck that may be an injury, you should go in to see the doctor. Also, if you have a stiff or sore neck that doesn't seem to be going away with over-the-counter medications, then you should have it checked to be on the safe side.
